Jack Coleman speaks

Posted in cast, characters, interviews, spoilers on May 2, 2008 by Citizen

Villains has started filming yesterday and Jack Coleman had some words to say:

Season 3: Heroes Turn Bad as a Villain Turns Good?

The best way to prep for a first day back at work? For Heroes’ Jack Coleman, spa treatments at the grand opening of Spa Luce at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. Though the show earlier this week resumed shooting Thursday, Friday is Coleman’s first day back. As such, pampering was in order for him, along with his wife, Beth, and daughter, Tess. TV Guide took the opportunity to get a peek at what’s coming up on the long-missing NBC series.

What’s in the cards for Noah Bennett this season? “I’m currently incarcerated and at the bottom of Level Five in the company facility,” Coleman told TV Guide. “I think there may be an escape in the offing, but at a cost.” Surprisingly, Noah might not be considered one of the villains at the forefront of the upcoming season. “I think I’m probably more likely to be hunting them,” he says. “But on our show there are always uneasy and unexpected alliances.”

As for other characters, Coleman says viewers will be seeing more of Hiro. “He’s firmly planted in Yamagato Industries now,” says Coleman. “I think Hiro’s more the guy who starts out wealthy and comfortable and is very unhappy taking over his father’s business and needs the quest. That’s his destiny.”

Fans can expect to see Hayden Panettiere, aka Noah’s daughter Claire, to be more assertive. “She’s trying to use what she has for a greater good rather than just blend in and be anonymous,” Coleman says of his take on the teen’s journey.

Another character Coleman recommends keeping an eye on — Mohinder. The actor teases, “He’s not as mild-mannered as he once was.” — Bekah Wright

Heroes starts filming today and an update on a new character

Posted in cast, characters, interviews on May 1, 2008 by Citizen

The Heroes production crew starts filming today. Let’s all wish them luck and hope they do what they do best.

Other than that, some scoop from Kristin:

Sasha in Charleston, Ill.: I’m in desperate need of some Heroes scoop. The wait until new episodes is killing me!

Look for a new villain named Joy. Her power is superspeed—she’s lightning-fast, like the Flash. Hiro meets her in a museum. He asks her if she has powers and if she is trying to steal some art. She convinces him she’s on the up-and-up…and then makes off with a bunch of paintings. She’s described as a nymph-like character with the speed of a cheetah on, er, speed.

Last time we saw Nathan Petrelli on Heroes, he was the victim of an assassin’s bullet. Since then, the audience has been hanging in limbo wondering, is Nathan dead? For that matter, is Niki? TV Guide caught up with Executive Producer and Director, Allan Arkush, on Saturday afternoon at the The Women in Film (WIF) Actors Group in Los Angeles.

Arkush says the series, which begins shooting its next 25 episodes on May 1, will return witha bang post-Olympics, with the first and second episodes airing back-to-back. “We’re picking up exactly where we left off,” he says. “There will be some huge surprises.” One change viewers will notice is a new series regular. Though Arkush remained mum on the subject, he did talk about the types of characters that will be making an appearance. “There will be characters coming that you’ve heard about.”

Some of these could be people from the past, like the group including Angela Petrelli and Kaito Nakamura featured in the mysterious photo. “We’ll learn more about that,” promises Arkush. As to whether this will be through flashbacks, Arkush would only say, “We are going to play with time and we are playing a lot with space and where people are on the planet.”

“Villains” will take center stage in the upcoming episodes, as well as the nature of these villains being set loose. “It will be really clear who these villains are,” says Arkush. “These are not necessarily characters you’ve met already. Obviously, there’s going to be a lot of Sylar.” Will some familiar faces clumped into this category? “One of the things that strikes me as so interesting about the show (“Company Man”) was when H.R.G. says, ‘I’m very comfortable in the morally grey area,'” says Arkush. “Think about that. Just like when Nathan and Linderman were going to destroy New York for reasons they thought were correct. And who on the show seems to be able to make very hard decisions and has grown as a character? One of those people is Angela (Petrelli).”

When it comes to grey areas, will Matt Parkman be exploring his newfound power and perhaps tapping into his dark side? “Matt’s going to be flashing someplace,” Arkush explained. “It’s one of the cool surprises.” As for the characters’ powers, he says, “One of the things that we’re going to explore is the very nature of these powers — where they come from, who has them, what the different aspects are of how they each got their powers and how it affects them. That’s going to be a major storyline this year — the actual genetic essence of the power.”

Among other burning questions is, will the innocent Hiro we first met turn completely to his warrior side? “As you’ve seen before in the show, sometimes there are multiples of the same person,” says Arkush. “That’s all I’m going to say about that.” And as for “multiples,” was Niki blown into a zillion pieces? “There’s some interesting stuff there, too,” Arkush says of the storyline.

Most importantly, by saving the cheerleader, have we saved the world? “In this version of this reality we have,” says Arkush. “As the show has shown, there are multiple realities. Every time you change something, every time you step on a butterfly, you could be changing the flow of the universe. That’s the chaos theory and that’s one of the things this season is about.”

For fans that can’t wait until fall for a Heroes fix, the series’ current soundtrack is available now and the DVD of Season Two hits store shelves in August.

Lynne in Trenton, N.J.: There are a lot of rumors flying around about new Heroes characters for season three. Can you tell me anything concrete?
Expect an unlikable dude named Jesse to join the cast. Mean, angry and out of control is what I’m hearing about him.

Question: Any more Heroes scoop? — Alive

Ausiello: Two new recurring roles are being cast, both of which are slated to debut in the Season 3 premiere. “Joy” is in her early twenties and described as “quick on her feet — and adept at getting herself into and out of trouble.” Senator Robert Malden, meanwhile, is in his fifties and a political straight shooter.

Season 3 to be a 3-hour event

Posted in interviews on April 4, 2008 by Citizen

Heroes will return to NBC on Sept. 15 with an expanded third-season opener, but network executives confirmed that the proposed prequel spinoff, Heroes: Origins, is officially dead.

“We consciously chose to rest [Heroes] this spring so that [creator] Tim Kring and his team could get ahead of the creative and build up to a massive event–a three-hour Heroes night,” Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, said during the network’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on April 2. “On Monday, Sept. 15, we’ll kick off with a Heroes clip show to try to bring back the audience and [then air] a massive two-hour Heroes film.”

Silverman also explained why the heavily hyped, much-anticipated Heroes: Origins was scrapped. The show was originally conceived to help eliminate Heroes repeats, and directors and writers–including feature-film vets Kevin Smith, Eli Roth and Michael Dougherty–were already lined up before NBC dropped the idea.

“We were taxing our creative team to do too much around that,” Silverman said. “We wanted 35 Heroes [episodes] and 12 Heroes: Origins, each of which was supposed to be a mini-movie and backdoor pilot. We reached far and challenged our people, and we decided it was better to focus on keeping the Heroes mothership as strong as possible.”

Kristen Bell’s status on heroes

Posted in cast, interviews on April 1, 2008 by Citizen

One of the biggest off season questions for Heroes and NBC has been whether newcomer Kristen Bell who played Elle would return for Volume 3. The characters storyline definitely has her being a part of the show, but the actress’ contract has still not been confirmed.

Here is the latest on Bell’s contract which indicates they are working on it.

There’s been some rumors that Kristen Bell won’t be returning for Season Three of NBC’s hit series, “Heroes.” Superhero Hype! got a chance to talk to Kristen this weekend in Oahu, and it sounded like us she’s definitely back as Elle Bishop.

“We’re working it all out right now,” Bell said. “The strike sort of threw a wrench into everything, but I think we’re going back this summer and start airing in the fall.”

12 new characters

Posted in cast, interviews, spoilers on March 25, 2008 by Citizen

When we last saw him on NBC’s “Heroes,” evil samurai Kensei — also known as Adam — was buried alive thanks to the time-traveling hero wannabe Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka). In Season 3 though, David Anders will definitely be back.

“I believe so, yeah. I hope so. I know I’m going to be in one of the first six so … .” Anders told SyFy Portal’s Alan Stanley Blair at this weekend’s Eclipse event in the United Kingdom. “But after that, it’s called ‘Villains,’ and I am an uber-villain.”

In the third volume of the series, the villains of the show will get a chance to show just how bad they can be. Among them are Adam, Angela Petrelli (Christine Rose), 12 new characters still to be revealed and also someone that Anders feels he would struggle to live up to: the infamous power-snatching Sylar (Zachary Quinto).
